German term

Changierlager

German to English Tech/Engineering Printing & Publishing Lubrication of Printing Presses
"Eine OBU wird vorgefettet angeliefert, so wird sichergestellt, dass das richtige Fett mit der richtigen Menge an der richtigen Stelle im ***Changierlager*** ist. Weiterhin wird diese Einheit innerhalb des Herstellerwerkes unter besonderer Bedachtnahme hinsichtlich der Sauberkeit montiert, damit das Risiko von Verschmutzung minimiert wird."

From a text about printing press lubrication. OBU stands for oscillating bearing unit. Changierlager obviously refers to another kind of bearing, but what the Changier bit means here, I have absolutely no idea! Iridescent bearing is about the only idea I can extract from the dictionaries (by looking up "changieren"), but this gets not search engine support. TIA for any light you can shed on this most odd word.

Discussion

Rowan Morrell (asker) Sep 19, 2005:
Thanks Tom! That helps tremendously and confirms what I was suspecting anyway. So it's a specific printing term - that would explain why I couldn't find it in any dictionary, though it's a pity the technical ones didn't at least have something about it! But anyway, your answer has cleared things up nicely, so thanks again.
Rowan Morrell (asker) Sep 19, 2005:
Oscillating Bearing? I'm beginning to wonder if this "Changierlager" is not something the author has coined to mean "oscillating bearing", given that oscillating bearing units are being referred to. I suppose that, at a stretch, "changieren" could be almost synonymous with "schwingen" or "schwanken", but I don't know the word "changieren" well enough to make that call with absolute certainty.
