Angiogram Report
"Es folgt ein popliteales Aneurysma. Das Aneurysma reicht bis 3 fingerbreit oberhalb der Kniespalte, danach ist das Gefäss angiographisch wieder normal."
From an angiogram report. I can't find an English translation for "Kniespalte" anywhere. I did find a Portuguese translation - fissura da patella or some such, but "patellar fissure" doesn't really get any credible hits. So I have no idea what "Kniespalte" is supposed to mean. What is the correct English medical term for this, please? TIA for your help.

joint space or joint cleft of the knee
Strictly speaking, the joint space of the femorotibial articulation. Its level coincides approximately with the distal edge of the patella.
Example sentence:
Optimum visualization of the joint space of the knee in the antero-poster projection is achieved with a 13° angulation caudad.

Comment: "All the suggestions were plausible, with good explanations and references. I thank you all very much for that. But I can only award points to one answer, and the answer I have chosen is Tom's, which had good peer support (although so did Gerhard's). In addition, I felt that I really needed to distinguish this a little from the Kniegelenk (the more usual German word for knee joint). But many thanks again to you all - appreciate everyone's help."

knee cavity
I used this term in the translation of the sentence "Alle benötigten allgemeinen Maße, wie z.B. Tuber-Boden-, Kniespalt-Boden-Maß, sowie ...". I had problems with "Kniespalte" and discussed it with the author. He suggested "knee cavity" and, subsequently, I found many hits.
Example sentence:
All general measurements required, such as tuber-ground, knee cavity-ground, as well as heel height....
Here is an MRI scan, where the contrast has been reversed so that the bones are dark and the knee cavity light.

patellar fissure
my guess based on the Portuguese

tibiofemoral (joint) gap
"joint gap of the knee" gets more Googles, but phrasing it as tibiofemoral gap fits your sentence better
