Spanish term

realizar trámites

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) telephone filtering service
This seems so easy on the surface but coming up with something that seems natural is proving tricky. Sorry for sucha basic question!

"Bienvenido a XXX Seguros, si necesita consultar, realizar trámites ó declarar un siniestro de automóvil, pulse 1; para nuevas contrataciones, información ó gestiones relacionadas con su póliza, pulse 2; para consultas, realizar trámites o declarar un siniestro de hogar, comercio, comunidades ó pyme, pulse 3; para cualquier otra información pulse 4 ó espere"

Personally, I think they are a poor example of categories - I think many people would find them quite complex to understand... I would almost certainly take the " press 4 or wait" option! :-)
Thanks

I meant to say "Please press 4 or stay on the line" rather than "press 4 and wait"

direct an inquiry or register a claim

Thinking specifically of directing calls in the insurance market, I think that the phrase has to be amplified a bit in English to be understandable. I suggest the above, or "for calls related to claims and inquiries, press 1".

agree Alejandro Alcaraz Sintes : La opción que das en la explicación me parece la más sencilla. Saludos.

Thanks Alejandro
agree Cinnamon Nolan : Definitely your 2nd option, but the specific subject matter has to be included: "...and inquiries concerning AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENTS, press 1"; for ... related to your INSURANCE POLICY, press 2; for ... HOME, BUSINESS or COMMUNITY accidents, press 3 (etc.)

Thanks Cinnamin. The problem with specifying is that we don't know how many kinds of "tramites" there are. I was executive secretary for a Spanish insurance company and discovered that the "tramites" were endless in every category.
agree Roxana Cortijo : I go for your second option.

agree Ruth Ramsey : Yes, or simply "make an enquiry or claim". I agree that this is not limited to only making claims.

agree Elizabeth Joy Pitt de Morales : Yes, but "enquiries" for BE (though not all BE speakers make this distinction) http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/inquiry#Usage_notes

Thank you for your fine tuning Ruth. Enquiry would, indeed, be better.

file a claim/file paperwork

I think the most logical thing it could refer to here in terms of insurance services is "filing a claim"

a distinct possibility (for existing claims). These messages usually think in terms of type of information. HTH.
Peer comment(s):

agree Carmen Schultz : I think this is the idea akin to filing a claim (in the US filing a claim would be used a lot in the lingo)
