Spanish term
Patas Mineras
Spanish to English
Other
Mining & Minerals / Gems
Mining: Chile
CONTEXT: Chile: In a vertical shaft of a mine [patas mineras] can (among other things i think) be used to climb up and down said shaft. May be similar to scaffolding, BUT, in a later paragraph it is stated that certain scaffolds can be tied/fixed to [patas mineras], so it is not scaffolding, however possibly a "half-horse scaffold". Below is source and my translation.
la escalera de acceso puede ser reemplazada por patas mineras ubicadas, de dos en dos, en corridas separadas a una distancia tal que permita ascender y descender siempre afirmado con tres extremidades sobre ellas.
the access ladder may be replaced by [patas mineras], placed two by two, in rows/stacked separated by such distance that should allow ascent and descent always with three extremities in contact with the structure.
patas mineras = a type of scaffolding / ladder system that can be connected together vertically ???

Gracias. tienes razón. Footholds -footholds were cut into the sides of the shaft to allow the miners to climb in and out. The shaft, when the chalk is reached, widens out into a domed chamber with
